DSC 0539 - the uncompleted cross stitch

From Nicholas on 24th October 2021 DSC 0539 - the uncompleted cross stitch

With a mother who had been employed in Savile Row as an expert seamstress and had been good enough with her needle to have done most of the work on the overcoats worn by then then Princess Elizabeth and her sister Margaret, Mary learned this skill early, and perfected it during her City and Guilds in Design and Tailoring during which she worked in Savile Row. After a brief spell as a wedding dress maker on her own account, Mary turned her hand to embroidery and cross stitch. There are many examples in friends’ houses round the country, but at the Event there were two part finished works still on the frame, and some completed items. Sadly, the really fine work became too hard for her eyes and the example there was one she had to give up. The more robust work she was able to continue for some time.
